Eyelid Surgery in Lafayette, LA
For patients in Lafayette, LA, who suffer from drooping eyelids, the surgeons at Plastic Surgery Associates of Lafayette perform eyelid surgery to help them restore a more youthful and refreshed appearance.
What is Eyelid Surgery?
Eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, improves the appearance of the upper eyelids, lower eyelids or both.
Benefits of Eyelid Surgery
- Loose or sagging skin that creates folds or disturbs the natural contour of the upper eyelid – this can sometimes affect a person’s vision
- Excess fatty deposits that appear as puffiness beneath the eyelid skin
- Bags under the eyes
- Droopiness of the lower eyelids – to avoid showing white below the iris
- Extra skin and fine wrinkles of the lower eyelid.
Eyelid Surgery Before & After
Look at these before and after photos to get a better idea of the type of results you can expect from eyelid surgery. Individual results will vary.
Eyelid Surgery Procedure
Local or intravenous anesthesia (twilight) may be used prior to eyelid surgery, depending on patient preference. Prior to the procedure, our surgeons will mark the eyelid area to indicate where and how much fatty tissue and/or skin needs to be removed.
Small incisions are made along the upper and lower eyelids and fatty tissue and excess skin are extracted. Dissolving sutures are then used to close the incisions. Loose and sagging skin is removed from the upper and/or lower eyelid. Fatty deposits can also be removed to reduce puffiness.
Surgery on the lower eyelid is effective for treating bags and wrinkles to give the eye area a more toned and tightened appearance.
Preparing for Eyelid Surgery
You will need to arrange for another person to drive you home after your surgery. You should also have someone stay with you the night of the procedure.
Eyelid Surgery Recovery
At the end of the surgery, ice compresses are placed over the affected area. The patient will then be asked to keep their head elevated and apply ice for the first 48 hours. This will help minimize any bruising and swelling that may occur following the procedure.
Dryness, itching, sensitivity to light, blurred vision, and tearing have been reported by patients, but in most cases resolve themselves within seven days. Over-the-counter pain medications can alleviate these symptoms. Most patients can return to work within a week after surgery and can resume vigorous activities three to four weeks later.
