ARM LIFT LAFAYETTE, LA

As we age, the skin on our upper arms begins to hang and look too fleshy. Darrell L. Henderson, MD is well trained at performing arm lifts to remove excess skin and leave patients in Lafayette, LA, with more toned and fit looking upper arms.

What is an Arm Lift?

The goal of an arm lift is to restore the upper and lower arm areas by removing excess skin and fat.

Benefits of an Arm Lift

  • Thinner contour to the arms
  • More youthful appearance
  • Improved balance and proportion in the contour of the arm
  • Increased confidence

Arm Lift Procedure

General anesthesia may be required in some cases, so you should be in good general health if you are considering the procedure. We advise our patients that a significant incision on the back or inside of the arm is required for the procedure, so you will have scarring.

A zigzag incision is made from your underarm area to your elbow. Skin and excess fat are removed with a scalpel, and liposuction is used to smooth out your natural contours. This ensures that your arm appears smooth and toned. Once your plastic surgeon has achieved the desired appearance, the incisions are sutured closed.

Preparing for an Arm Lift

Typical symptoms after an arm lift include redness, swelling, tenderness, and discomfort. These symptoms may last up to one month. Another post-surgical symptom is numbness that lasts up to a few months. Your plastic surgeon may prescribe pain medications for any discomfort; however, many patients manage the discomfort with over-the-counter medications.

Arm Lift Recovery

You see some initial results of the surgery immediately after the procedure, but you will have some swelling, so full results are not obvious. You are able to go home the day of your surgery so you will need to have someone available to drive you home.

If your plastic surgeon uses non-dissolvable stitches, you will return for a follow-up appointment five to ten days after your surgery for stitch removal. Recovery from an arm lift typically takes one to two weeks, after which you may return to work, but strenuous activities including exercise should be avoided for four to six weeks.*

*Take note individual results may vary
